North Barneston
North Barneston is a pair of layouts built by Riley Barnes, they depict two different scenes of railway operations. A town centre station and a TMD with country side scene. He is looking to exhibit these layouts either as a pair or on their own.
Cobra Canyon
Cobra Canyon is a layout belonging to one of our active junior members, Riley Barnes. He was very fortunate to be gifted the layout at our Tad-Rail exhibition in 2017. The model was built by a life member of our club, John Parkinson from Blaenau Ffestiniog. John is well known through his many detailed models and for publishing several books on railway modelling. Cobra Canyon was featured in Continental Modeller in the June 2007 issue.
Riley has exhibited Cobra Canyon at our 40th year anniversary exhibition, Vale Rail and at Beacon Rail in 2019, RISEX 2022, and Silverfox DDC in 2023.

Quarry Lane End
Our member, Mike Sumpter, has built a 009 exhibition layout based on a fictional location...
Quarry Lane End
“Imagine a small worked out quarry set in countryside near a village (as yet unnamed). As a rule, such quarries are generally left to natural reclamation of the land and maybe some human intervention. Here, opportunity has been grabbed by both hands to provide much needed community space; craft and timber workshops has been established, farmland reclaimed and enough level area to be grassed over and provide the essential village cricket pitch. But the best bit is the resurrection of old quarry railway workings to provide not only a link to other villages but a money-spinning visitor attraction.”
Facts and Figures: The layout measures 190cm x 65cm. The track plan is in the shape of a flat sided dog-bone. The flat side consists of two through fiddle yard lanes hidden behind the back scene. The visible track has a goods yard and an engine shed, both with two sidings within the two circular ends. The track disappears into tunnels. The emphasis of the layout is to illustrate how much scenic detail can be provided in a small area to give the viewer enough to talk about. Finally, the centre piece to the whole layout is the village cricket pitch with a game in progress.
Mike's layout can be seen on the exhibition circuit and check out the videos from our most recent model railway show - TAD RAIL 2024 - for a video of Quarry Lane end in action (with sound!)
